The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced that the former chief operating officer at Harbinger Capital Partners LLC has agreed to settle charges that he assisted a scheme by the firm and its owner Philip A. Falcone to misappropriate millions of dollars from a hedge fund they managed to pay Falcone’s personal taxes.

The Securities and Exchange Commission today charged Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation with violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) when employees and representatives of the U.S.-based parent company authorized and made improper payments to foreign officials while trying to win contracts to supply firearm products to military and law enforcement overseas.

St. Charles County attorney Jeffrey Witt pled guilty to three (3) federal felony charges: falsifying documents to obtain a bank loan secured by a St. Louis County home which did not actually belong to him, using an associate to impersonate the true home owner at the bank loan closing, and cashing legal client settlement checks without their knowledge.

Justice Department Announces Proposed Amendment to Americans with Disabilities Act Regulations to Expand Access to Movie Theaters for Individuals with Hearing and Vision Disabilities

The Justice Department announced today that Attorney General Eric Holder has signed a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to amend the Title III regulation for the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to require movie theaters to provide closed movie captioning and audio description in order to give persons with hearing and vision disabilities access to movies.
